Are Air Plants Safe for Cats and Dogs?

  • Sep 09, 2019

Through accidental testing on our cats and dogs it appears Tillandsia or airplants are non-toxic.  We do not make any claims based on scientific research but anecdotally we have not heard of any incidents to suggest they are not safe for pet’s with a penchant for eating your precious house plants.

    Your Pets Will Love Them!

In fact they are so appealing to our furry friends we are unable to have a single airplant in our home due to our cat’s voracious appetite for them!  Whole plants have disappeared or shown up mangled after a late night case of feline munchies.  Our dog watches the careful way we move the tillandsia around our nursery outside and if one drops will carefully pick it up with his mouth and move it to a new location of his choosing.  Large collections of airplants are arranged in front of his sleeping area, suggesting a budding penchant for tillandsia design or at least collecting emerging in the canine community.

     Long Story Short...

So short answer appears to be yes airplant’s are safe for cats and dogs.  However we welcome any comments, feedback, or research from our readers suggesting otherwise!
